So I’m trading options and I’m looking for a good tool to detect unusual movements in the options space. The goal here is to spot movements in the market before they happen and to trade o. Information available to everyone but that this app is able to analyze first. I have a few that I’ve been looking at, so far most notably are Unusual Wales and Lantern Options. Both seem to be good candidates and they’re small enough that I don’t think everyone is making the same moves. Curious if anyone has any other apps they’re using? I’m on iOS only so only able to see what’s on the app store for apple. submitted by /u/bullnodes [link] [comments]

  4. AMC- Any Idea what this means for Friday? (12/04/2021 - Reddit Stock Market)
Shares of AMC Entertainment (NYSE:AMC) saw some unusual options activity on Monday. Following the unusual option alert, the stock price moved down to $8.97. Sentiment: BULLISH Option Type: SWEEP Trade Type: PUT Expiration Date: 2021-04-16 Strike Price: $11.00 Volume: 4649 Open Interest: 13431 Three Ways Options Activity Is â??Unusual' Extraordinarily large volume (compared to historical averages) is one indication of unusual options market activity. Volume refers to the total number of contracts traded over a given time period when discussing options market activity. Open interest is the number of unsettled contracts that have been traded but not yet closed by either counterparty. In other words, open interest represents the quantity of contracts that individual parties have written but not yet found a counterparty for (i.e. a buyer finding a seller, or a seller finding a buyer). The trading of a contract with an expiration date in the distant future is another sign of unusual activity. Generally, additional time until a contract expires increases the potential for it to reach its strike price and grow its time value. Time value is important in this context because it represents the difference between the strike price and the value of the underlying asset. "Out of the money" contracts are unusual because they are purchased with a strike price far from the underlying asset price. "Out of the money" occurs when the underlying price is under the strike price on a call option, or above the strike price on a put option. Buyers and sellers try to take advantage of a large profit margin in these instances because they are expecting the value of the underlying asset to change dramatically in the future. Bullish And Bearish Sentiments Options are "bullish" when a call is purchased at/near ask price or a put is sold at/near bid price. Options are "bearish" when a call is sold at/near bid price or a put is bought at/near ask price. These observations are made without knowing the investor's true intent by purchasing these options contracts. The activity is suggestive of these strategies, but an observer cannot be sure if a bettor is playing the contract outright or if the options bettor is hedging a large underlying position in common stock. For the latter case, bullish options activity may be less meaningful than the exposure a large investor has on their short position in common stock. Trading Options With These Strategies Unusual options activity is an advantageous strategy that may greatly reward an investor if they are highly skilled, but for the less experienced trader, it should remain as another tool to make an educated investment decision while taking other observations into account. 10. What's the best indicator for increased option activity? (06/03/2021 - Reddit Stock Market)
Hey y'all, I'm working next week on a side project to improve my strategy's stock discovery process using a synthesis of market data, sentiment analysis, and semantic analysis on news sites. For the first step - discovery via market data - I'm intending to use an API to pull in a basket of stocks (probably around 3500 or so) and try to find unusual stock/options activity, which I defined as any statistically significant change from baseline volume/liquidity (compared let's say to a 52 week moving average). I'm wondering though - which would be a better indicator for activity: Daily volume of the underlying security -- this would be likely the easiest to actually compute, but I'm wondering if that is necessarily predictive of increased options activity (e.g. it seems quite possible that stock volume would be a lagging indicator of what I'm actually interested in) Options trading volume - I'm thinking for this I would want to segment it based on the actual options contract, since that's fairly useful data as a gauge of general market sentiment Other that I'm missing I'm thinking naively that options trading volume is more useful for indicating potential stocks in my model (it would then be compared with news sources to determine why the activity is occurring). What do you guys think? submitted by /u/stumpy101017 [link] [comments]

    1) How do I calculate the profit/loss incurred when assigned early on a debit and credit spread? 2) Wouldn't buying to close a short position be worse than getting assigned? Since buying to close a sold option also includes buying extrinsic value. 3) Could put-call ratios and unusual options activity be good indicators of where a stock might be going? 4) Can I use 3x leveraged ETF LEAPS as a long-term investment? What is volatility drag and could it affect the LEAPS? 5) What sorts of strategies should I use when implied volatility is very low or very high? 6) Is there such thing as low-risk high-reward option strategy? 13. Finding Options Plays Before the Crowd (23/04/2021 - Reddit Stock Market)
Hey guys, made a survey about a month ago trying to figure out what people would want in an app that screens options orders that we flag as unusual. We're currently calling it Lantern Options! So the app is comprised of a few key things: The options Flow. this is where people can see what’s happening in the options market in real-time. we flag a bunch of different types of transactions by size and timing and give the users unusual movement. They can use this as a sort of indicator into what smart money thinks about various stocks and how quickly they think it’ll move. You can filter by options expiry, premium paid and the different order flags/types. For each contract, we provide a historical look into the key metrics like premium paid for it, volume, open interest, bid-ask and historical greeks up to a month ago. This way users can see whether an options contract is fairly priced or actually tradable based on all these key metrics. For the company page we’re giving price history (soon to be prices directly from NASDAQ) and key metrics about the company like fundamentals, profile information, recent filings and we’ll be following up shortly with additional pieces of information like analyst ratings, sentiment and newswire reports. We’ll be expanding this to offer more generalized options information as well. Ideally this is all actionable information that you can use We also let users follow various companies so they can be alerted when there’s interesting movements, new calendar events or something came up on the news / earnings. You can check it out at uselantern.com or on the apple app store submitted by /u/bullnodes [link] [comments]

  15. Rocket Lab or Virgin Galactic? (10/04/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
Rocket Lab investor presentation https://www.rocketlabusa.com/assets/Rocket-Lab-Investor-Presentation.pdf Virgin Galactic Investor presentation https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1706946/000114420419034053/tv524921_ex99-2.htm So I currently own shares of Virgin Galactic and I am considering buying Rocket Lab as well when it goes public. Both companies are a pure space play: VirginGalactic focusing on space tourism with a horizontal take off like a plane and Rocket Lab with sending vertical rockets to space with satellite payloads. They are also working on a rocket to compete with Space X Falcon 9. VirginGalactic has a lot of popularity and is more well known, however rocket lab appears to be better in several ways then VirginGalactic. Better in leadership, financially, execution, and engineering. However I understand that is certainly up for debate. Thoughts? Would you invest in Virgin Galactic or RocketLab or both ? Or neither ? submitted by /u/joey-tv-show [link] [comments]

  16. Canoo($GOEV) is setting up for a massive gamma squeeze (04/03/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
As the tech selloff has killed the tech sector, especially EV plays, GOEV has been showing some very unusual options activity. For the past week or so, there has been MASSIVE call buying in this name even as it tanked from a recent high of $19 down to $13. Yesterday, over EIGHTEEN times more calls were traded than puts even as this name tanked. This morning, we can see that much of that volume has translated into open interest. This is extremely strange. If tech bounces back anytime soon in the next few weeks/month, these options will print huge. Add on the fact that GOEV is believed to be announcing catalysts (partnerships or manufacturing updates) sometime in Q1 and I feel this is an extremely good play. Finally, GOEV will be participating in a Roth Capital web conference scheduled for March 15-17. Disclaimer: Not financial advice. 25. Rocket Companies $RKT - (GAMMA + SHORT) x SQUEEZE = MOON? (02/03/2021 - Reddit Stock Market)
Today we already ran out of options calls. The highest option this morning was the $35 strike price which was selling for 0.72 and reached a high of $10.99 before the closing bell. Tomorrow we should have options as high as $60, given the volatility in the price, is likely that market makers will price the new options way higher making it more difficult to play the gamma squeeze. can the gamma and short squeeze continue? Unlikely. can it reach $50? is possible can it reach $60? I don't think so. should you get in? If you didn't buy at $24 buying at $40+ is super risky. If you have a position, then you are smart enough when to lock in profits or exit the entire position. Best of Luck! Disclaimer: I a position in RKT - 100 shares @ 24.3. Hey everyone, I have a question about options that I’m not sure where to ask, I’m brand new to investing in stocks. If anyone could explained I’d appreciate it a lot: How does anyone lose a ton of money with options? Why wouldn’t they just let the contracts expire and lose their premium, isn’t that the only real risk you have with options - because it gives you the right not the obligation? I browse WSB and see their “loss porn” and as someone who doesn’t know too much about options I just scratch my head because how is someone so negative on a position - it’s not like the premiums are hundreds of thousands of dollars, are they?!? Rocket Companies (ticker RKT) is Rocket Mortgage, the online mortgage broker launched by Quicken Loans in 2015. RKT had their Q4 earnings released today, and as of market close were trading at $19.90, and $20.90 as of this post during AH. First, let me briefly mention that RKT has been shorted like CRAZY and as of the last Short Interest report on Feb 9th, RKT has AT LEAST 31.32% shares short. That makes it a great target for a (probably small) short squeeze, even if temporarily. Before you get too excited and start treating this like a Meme stock, read on about why this is a fantastic investment even without considering Short Interest. Rocket’s Q4 results COMPLETELY knocked it out of the park with $4.8 billion Adjusted Revenue (up 162% YOY) and $2.3 billion Adjusted Income (up 350% YOY). See Yahoo article here Last month, Rocket also announced their new online National Mortgage Broker Directory that allows/assists people to find an in-person mortgage agent to help them purchase their home. It’s an alternative to fill the need of the people who prefer in-person contact over filling out overwhelming checkboxes and blanks online. They’re also now adding a Special dividend of $1.11/share, announced today with their earnings. RKT has been trading way under an average PT of $24.68 ($18-$35) by 14 analysts on Yahoo! Finance way before these new earnings results, so it was already trading at a discount. For the better part of the last 6 months it has traded consistently between $19-$24. It’s primed for a jump even without any of this news. TL;DR- buy RKT. It’s cheap, is massively shorted and has GREAT financials. And a Special dividend. Plus, their name is Rocket. submitted by /u/MasterTmax [link] [comments]

  33. Tracking the trends on social media (08/03/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
So I’m sure most of us are aware that last week Dave Portnoy announced the Buzz ETF with VanEck an asset management firm. “The index fund scours over 15 million online social media posts a month on sites like Twitter, Reddit, and StockTwits for investing hype using machine learning and artificial intelligence. It looks for patterns, trends, and sentiments that will impact the market value of certain stocks.” Source Though tools available to the major firms are not available to individual investors. There are many projects that have popped up recently that I have been following. I have been tracking sentiment via the below projects and have had much better results then I originally expected. Here’s the list of resources I use: Quiver Quant Visualize Mentions for a stock over a 24 hour period Vhinny Hype Visualize Trending Stocks, Stock Price vs Mentions and Unusual Mentions. The hype project is pretty interesting as its a play on unusual options activity, but they look for upcoming hot stocks (I have personally found this quite useful). Swaggy Stocks Probably one of the first sentiment tools I used. They do a really great job of visualizing what the wallstreetbets community's sentiment is for each stock. They Track the mentions for each stock as well. The one downside is I believe majority of their data comes from wallstreetbets and not reddit as a whole. This guy also has a subreddit which is really interesting. TickerTrak A little less advanced then the above projects, but very nice user interface and easy to use. pickmojo Tracks redditors positions. Just fun to watch, but not sure of the usefulness. Alternative Analytics Tracks sentiment vs the major index's http://stocks.comment.ai/ Tracks the sentiment on comments Bearish / Bullish Unbias Stock Complete breakdown of trending data across social media. Very interesting WSB Index as well. As a momentum trader myself I feel as if the game is changing and having access to this data can be extremely valuable. submitted by /u/Significant_Dinner_ [link] [comments]

  34. Anti-Rocket Ship: Broker with Social Sentiment and Media? (14/02/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
Is there a broker like Webull where there is a comment section or ability to see social media like twitter built in? Not looking for just a social media score. Basically I like seeing when rocket ships appear, so I know when to bolt. submitted by /u/karate134 [link] [comments]

Not sure how to flair this but here goes. How can both call options and put options be down for a particular day. Realistically an underlying security can only move one of two directions (up or down) so wouldn't either puts or calls be up and the opposite be down at any given time? submitted by /u/Admiraloftittycity [link] [comments]

  40. Options volume (26/03/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
I haven't bought many options before. Been trading stocks mostly. I've considered options before, but for most things I've traded up to this point, it made more sense to just buy the stock. I recently bought about as many options as I can afford to cover (so not that many), in case I want to exercise them. I didn't realize they keep track of the price while you hold them, and you can buy and sell them without ever covering the shares. So theoretically, I could have bought about 100 times more options. Since the ones I bought expire in 6 months, the price is super volatile. So it seems like buying closer to what I can afford to buy is a bad idea. Thoughts on this? Do you keep options volume to close or maybe up to 2-3 times what you can afford to cover? submitted by /u/ss1728 [link] [comments]

  43. Stocks vs Options. Is it possible to make good money buying stocks or are options the only way to go. (14/03/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
Greetings and salutations, It seems to me that any gain porn I've ever seen comes from people becoming millionaires in the space of 1-3 years by trading options. Being relatively new to stocks and trading, I've bought into a few stocks here and there but the only feasible way to great gains (and equally great losses) is through options. Am I wrong? submitted by /u/DaFatKontroller [link] [comments]

  44. UWMC United Wholesale Mortgage is going down, and here is why. (Opinion article) (08/03/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
My opinion article on UWMC (United Wholesale Mortgage). Currently UWM’s president/CEO has decided to give all their brokers an ultimatum, which basically states if you want to do business with them you are not allowed to send loans to Rocket Mortgage (RKT). Here is why that is a problem and in my opinion is going to get the CEO fired and in turn create volatility in the company. Their current ultimatum goes against everything brokers stand for. The point of being a broker is to have options so you aren’t “selling” one lenders product. Many brokers built a large part of their business on UWM’s platform while the other half of their business is in most cases built through Rocket. Meaning, most loan officers at a brokerage send 95% of their business to one of those top two lenders. So for a company like UWM to break up brokerages (if they sign that agreement, anybody that uses Quicken will have to pivot or find a new broker to work for), because they want to try to gain more market share because they have been losing massively in market share gain to Rocket over the past 2 years. I foresee many brokers revolting and possibly never going back to UWM due to their will to create a market in the industry without competition. It would be like McDonalds saying if you eat at Burger King you can’t eat at McDonalds anymore. Also to add, UWM is a compliance nightmare in which their underwriters are extremely inconsistent, which in my opinion leaves their “dirty” books a significant factor to audits in the future. To add, UWM has some of the best technology and support to allow brokers to send them loans easily, but with their shady tactics and a longtime CEO that will be hard to force out... there will be quite a road ahead of us. I had stock in UWM but have sold it all and buying puts. This is not financial advice. I don’t like the stock. submitted by /u/Nothin2Say [link] [comments]

  46. Weird Things in the Market ever since GME... (09/05/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
Sure, interest rate fears definitely “rationalizes” the sell-offs in tech, but the overall spread of securities have been acting very unusual lately, can’t help but think GME is gonna reach unimaginable numbers with the oddity ongoing rn.. Not to be bias as a shareholder but I used to strictly day trade/go long on diversified stocks but SOMETHING BIG is brewing. The fact that GME is pinned to this price is UNUSUAL especially when every single advisor targets this stock at 20.. I honestly think the BIG SHORT PT.2 is coming, as in, the accumulation of over-leveraged shorts on “meme” stocks & various others will burst and make random heavily shorted stocks to BOOM while major banks go down. I’m interested in options trading but I’ve noticed it really hard to find a good broker that allows it in the UK.
