AT&T, Discovery In Talks To Merge

Reddit Stocks

17/05/2021 - 01:03

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/t-discovery-talks-merge-media-170116187.html AT&T, Discovery In Talks To Merge Media Assets The proposed deal could create an entertainment giant to compete with Netflix Inc (NASDAQ: NFLX) and Walt Disney Co (NYSE: DIS). HBO and HBO Max now have 63.9 million global subscribers, compared with over 100 million for Walt Disney Co's Disney+ and 207.6 million for Netflix. That seems like a big fucking deal to me but does this mean mergers and acquisitions are on the table for the streaming giants like NFLX VIAC AMZN AAPL DIS? submitted by /u/eigenman [link] [comments]

  1. AT&T ($T) in talks to combine media assets with Discovery ($DISCA) (16/05/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
The Wall Street Journal reports that AT&T is in advanced talks to combine media assets, including CNN, with Discovery to consolidate their industry against incoming attacks from streaming. The article states that T shareholders will maintain a large stake in the new entity. It’s unclear (at least to me) whether these media assets will be a new company altogether or be a part of Discovery. Perhaps this suggests some of these media assets will push into cord-cutting and streaming, further suggesting the end of linear TV. https://www.wsj.com/articles/at-t-in-talks-to-combine-media-assets-including-cnn-with-discovery-11621183450?st=mld6y9qy9wg4co2&reflink=article_copyURL_share I have no position in these stocks but am interested in seeing how this develops. submitted by /u/Social_History [link] [comments]

NewCo EV will be between 130-150B (https://finance.yahoo.com/news/t-merge-media-assets-discovery-112119772.html, https://www.ft.com/content/5aeba5f9-2e00-4cba-b9c7-e0431aad798b) Discovery holds 15B of debt and AT&T gets 45B in cash and debt from the deal so that "naively" totals to 45B of debt to the NewCo. So Market Cap for the NewCo is between 85-105B Discovery gets 29% of NewCo, so between 24-26B vs current $16-18B (depends on the series DISCA/DISCK/DISCB), a 50-60% upside. There is also about 3B of planned cost cuts from the merger, but we can just omit it to cover for the sloppy analysis Thoughts? 17. Not a DD but check out Discovery! It hasn't been dropping the past month like everything else. (12/03/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
I know they released Discovery plus but aside from that does anybody know why it's been steadily rising? It's pretty old as most of us enjoy the Discovery channel and have since we were kids. (I'm 26) What other sources of income do they have and are any big names in on it? This is more open to discussion than a suggestion to invest. Maybe someone could take profit and drop it a decent amount at some point so is it safe to ride for a few weeks since it's already ran so much? I jumped in yesterday pivoting from Tesla. Currently have 24K of my own money in shares and another 18K in margin. Might play it short since it hasn't had much pullback this far. submitted by /u/OstaPasta [link] [comments]

  23. $DISCA is the Next Massive Short Squeeze (27/04/2021 - Reddit Stock Market)
Discovery Plus added over 7 million paid subscribers in January and February. That's a whole lot of revenue that's just revitalized a fading staple of cable tv. GS Analytics writes, "Before Discovery+ launched, analysts and investors were characterizing Discovery as a company in secular decline, with linear television subscribers cutting cords and moving to OTT platforms. They were skeptical of the company's ability to attract subscribers on its DTC platform and were questioning whether customers will pay for Discovery's content versus the already existing players like Netflix. The successful launch of Discovery+ has proved the bare thesis absolutely wrong. The company gained 7 million new DTC paid subscribers in January and February. Discovery+ is likely to have higher margins and a lower break-even point, given its leadership position in non-scripted content." GS Analytics believes low evaluations, high short interest, and a successful pivot to the Discovery+ platform gives the stock significant upside." And because of this, we're bound to see a good amount of retail traders discussing this stock in the weeks or months ahead. This one of my top plays because the upside is pretty substantial and the short interest as GS analytics has said is pretty crazy. Has anyone else bought in for the next short spectacle? submitted by /u/adamjamesfuller [link] [comments]

At the same time it looks like the number one shareholder Axar Capital was involved in a scheme to drive down STON stock price to buy out minority shareholders with a reverse stock split rouse. See Delaware Chancery Court docket. IMO the minority shareholders would never agree a merger price less than something in the low $10s per share or a one for one stock swap from SCI.... I think it's fairly obvious that they are going to merge with lucid motors at this point, so CCIV + Lucid at 15B marketcap? Incredibly undervalued, IMO. After the merger, this should at least moon up to 100B within months, or less, since every single country is moving towards EV. Cali banning gasoline by 2030, China banning even sooner I think. Every country is incentivizing EV, etc etc you all know the deal. Is CCIV the play? It's gone up bigly within the past month but the MC is so low that I think we haven't even begun to see the rise of it yet. I loaded up on calls expiring Jan 2022, basically I don't see how this stock couldn't go up if they merge with Lucid. Basically, I think we're catching NIO 2.0. I’ve read about the pros and cons about the merger in general and already have a long position in AT&T but what I’m wondering is if you believe about the growth of the new company in the future would it be better to buy shares of AT&T or Discovery or wait to buy shares of the new company?
