ICLN/ INRG Rebalancing - NZX extends trading hours for S&P Global Clean Energy changes

Reddit Stocks

16/04/2021 - 10:42

Today's the day a lot of ICLN/ INRG owners have been looking forward to after a 20% - 30% drop since peaks in January following the Biden administration entering office. Between the end of trading sessions on Friday April 16th 2021, and before the start of trading on Monday 19th April 2021, it is expected that Blackrock will rebalance their positions in ICLN/INRG in accordance to changes to thee S&P Global Clean Energy index to which they track. This is starting to take place in New Zealand as trading hours are extended by 45 minutes to accommodate high volumes in both Meridian Energy and Contact Energy (both of which are seeing their weightings reduced). https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/nzx-extends-trading-hours-for-sp-global-index-change/2N4Q2ENY7W6TALMMRJBLWZ4XRM/ It is also expected that Plug Power, which drove much of the ETFs growth in 2020 (and demise in 2021 following a market correction and accounting errors), will see it's weighting gradually reduced. This will be of relief to many investors who are looking to bet on clean energy, but have been concerned by Plug's overweighting at ~10% of the index. The restructuring will see the holdings of ICLN/INRG increase from ~30 to ~100, increasing it's diversity and it's stability. The rebalancing is likely to act as a watershed moment for the ETF which has been trading sideways since it bottomed out in March 2nd 2021 and is looking for a breakout opportunity. This morning INRG opened on the London Stock Exchange with a 2% gain in the first 90 minutes of trading. 1. Could the Clean Energy for America Act proposal bring a rotation back into clean energy? (24/04/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
https://www.natlawreview.com/article/senate-democrats-propose-overhaul-clean-energy-incentives https://www.energy.gov/articles/doe-launches-international-clean-energy-initiatives-tackle-climate-crisis The last month or so has been rough for clean energy stocks all around. This is only a proposal as of now, but if passed, I wonder if it will boost clean energy stocks to ATHs. I wouldn't be surprised with a push to $30, especially after the rebalancing. With 9 of the top 10 companies having a positive net income, ICLN is now a far safer investment, and much less speculative than it once was. I'd like to hear others opinions on this. Could we see another run from ICLN, or have the moves been too quick, too fast. Is 100% clean energy by 2035 too ambitious a goal, will this boost the earnings of companies that have already proven themselves. submitted by /u/Traditional_Fee_8828 [link] [comments]

  2. Renewable Energy ETFs (26/06/2021 - Reddit Stock Market)
QCLN - First Trust NASDAQ Clean Edge Green Energy - (best performance, too much TSLA) ACES - ALPS Clean Energy - (newest, smallest, cheap, too focused on US/Canada) ICLN - Ishares Global Clean Energy (least focused on US, cheapest MER) TAN - Invesco Solar - (tech-focused, riskiest, most concentrated) PBW - Invesco WilderHill Clean Energy - ? PBD - Invesco Global Clean Energy (least focused on US, better performance than ICLN) I'm leaning toward PBW & PBD combination (or just PBD, and forget the rest). 3. Anyone else looking forward to ICLN’s rebalancing? (30/03/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
After having too much money in to few companies, ICLN will be getting an overhaul. It could go from a holding of 30 to 100. The overweighting towards PLUG has always bugged me and I’m looking forward to seeing what is included. The underlying index will also begin to include companies that have exposure to clean energy even if it is not strictly in the clean energy business. This all seems like great news to me. Hello! Everyone was waiting for ICLN to be rebalanced and getting rid of huge PLUG holdings. I don't think I have sufficient knowledge experience to comment on how much did the rebalancing helped, so wanted to ask you guys who have been in the market for way longer than I am. I think it's still early to decide the results of rebalancing but what do you think the future of ICLN could be? Thanks! submitted by /u/quite--average [link] [comments]

I started buying ACES, PBW, ICLN, QCLN, and TAN on the 2020 dip. I've been diversifying in 2021, so I'm trying to reduce my ticker count in clean energy for easier management. I already cut ICLN, but I'd like to cut at least one, maybe even two more. 6. seeking Alpha article about ICLN (15/03/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
overall points made in the article about the possible crash: Clean energy stocks are currently in a sharp correction as many new bearish catalysts appear. There has been a sharp reversal in the surge of Google search volumes for "green energy stocks" and "ICLN". Many firms in the clean energy ETF ICLN are overvalued with overseas manufactures being the few remaining value opportunities. While green energy is the future, this growth appears to be more than priced into most of the top stocks in ICLN. As margin debt, taxes, and cash levels lower market liquidity, we may see a prolonged crash in ICLN and its top holdings. thoughts on this? 8. S&P Global Energy Index Rebalancing (14/04/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
I’ve seen a lot of posts regarding the upcoming rebalancing for the S&P Global Energy Index, which affects multiple ETFs, like ICLN, stating that it will take place after market close on 4/16. However, in S&P’s consultation, they state: “S&P DJI is proposing to implement the previously described methodology changes, if adopted, in conjunction with the upcoming rebalancing, which takes effect prior to the market open on Monday, April 19, 2021.” I interpret this as the changes are currently taking place, rather than coming into effect next week. If so, that would explain some of the sell off of certain securities that we’ve seen this week (i.e. PLUG). Am I looking at this correctly? Trying to get another set of eyes on this as I’ve read conflicting posts. submitted by /u/bomemeianrhapsody [link] [comments]

  9. Oil Stocks Up, Clean Energy Stocks Down (12/02/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BE A POLITICAL POST - KEEP ALL OF THE PARTISAN BS TO YOURSELVES PLEASE So, the popular opinion was that when the new administration took over this year, that clean energy stocks were going to rally in a big way, and oil was going to suffer. But even as Biden gives speech after speech declaring his commitment to clean energy, day after day, oil stocks keep outperforming, and clean energy stocks / etfs get slaughtered (I'm looking at you, ICLN & QCLN). Wasn't it supposed to be the other way around? Or is it an unintended consequence that squeezing big oil produces more scarcity in the commodity due to production constraints? Did we just expect too much too soon in the clean energy space? What's strange is that pot stocks are (ahem - were) up huge on the expectation of nationwide legalization, even though that's far below clean energy on Biden's list of priorities. When do you think we'll start seeing some payoff in our clean energy investments? submitted by /u/attentionspanltd [link] [comments]

I'm looking at pre-market, and every clean energy stock seems to be up a lot. It seems as if they're on track to make a big recovery, after taking such a hit. I'm hoping this will keep up as the week goes on. I would be very happy to see another 8% day for ICLN, although I imagine this would be pushing my luck. Hopefully this relieves some of the worry on those in the clean energy sector. 11. Can this explain why ICLN/INRG/IQQH have fallen like crazy lately? (13/04/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
BlackRock ETF may be forced to sell billions in energy stocks (March 25) https://www.ft.com/content/d43ec8c5-0990-4781-b71f-82cb73a09610 TLDR: too few companies in the index, should have done the rebalancing before the ETFs became these big, when doing the rebalancing suddenly, values of the etf will go down as they can't just sell so many without bringing the price down, or buying too much without increasing the price up.. Some excerpts below Massive investor inflows into two BlackRock exchange traded funds pinned on just 30 clean energy stocks may force the asset manager to sell billions of dollars worth of shares to prevent it building up overly large holdings in the companies. The potential sales of two New Zealand energy companies would represent the amount that is typically traded in 40-50 days in order to comply with a dramatic index rebalancing the ETFs now own more than 8 per cent of the market cap of six stocks, according to SocGen’s calculations, and more than 6 per cent of a further eight. ETFs tracking the index would need to buy all of the freshly added stocks, as well as increasing their holdings in some existing constituents. To do the rebalncing (from 33 company now to the intended 77) iShares ETFs would need to pump more than $400m into each of Vestas Wind Systems, Orsted and NextEra Energy, as well as large sums into Chinese groups such as China Longyuan Power, Xinjiang Goldwind and GCL-Poly Energy. This buying spree would be counterbalanced by a wave of disposals. The ETFs would need to sell $405m worth of stock in New Zealand’s Meridian Energy, SocGen estimated, equivalent to 47.6 days of typical turnover. Similarly, the estimated $360m of sales of fellow Kiwi operator Contact Energy would represent 45.9 days of trading. “In a perfect world, they would have changed the index before now,” he (an expert) added. “It’s very rare that you say ‘our index is too narrow because the ETFs following it are more successful than we imagined’,” said Sleep. “The index was created for the express requirement of these ETFs. I don’t suppose they ever imagined they would [hold] $11bn.” Even this latest set of proposals may not be enough. S&P has already signalled its intention to conduct a further consultation after the April revamp to potentially expand the Clean Energy index into fields such as marine energy, alternative fuels, energy storage, energy efficiency and smart grids. S&P declined to comment pending the results of the current review. submitted by /u/futureIsYes [link] [comments]

  13. Renewable Energy ETF bubble popped? (13/04/2021 - Reddit Stock Market)
I have been investing in clean energy etfs such as pbw, qcln, icln, tan or fan since last october. They had been extremely good in performance before the late February and after the huge correction in Feb and early March, they seem to have lost the steam completely, never showing any symptoms that they could rise again. I have read recently some analysts see the clean energy tech bubble finally popped, like it did a decade ago. 16. Clean Energy Stocks tanking today yet no obvious reason (22/02/2021 - Reddit Stock Market)
ICLN, TAN, ACES, all the clean energy stocks are down ~4% today and I am not sure why. Is it because traditional energy (petroleum, coal) are surging for some reason? Cold weather in Texas suddenly makes legacy energy suddenly become viable? The cold weather illustrated issues with some green energy tech (windmills not provisioned for cold weather) but these are only mistakes in planning not a change in logical direction. Biden's next stimulus package is expected to focus on green energy which should propel green stocks, so the sell-off confuses the hell out of me. submitted by /u/MemeStock2daMoon [link] [comments]

Hello. I’m going to be getting about 3k as a tax return and will be placing it in an investment account to let sit until retirement. I already have a Roth so this will be separate. I’m thinking of using fractional to equally go between these. How do they look ? Apple Microsoft Disney Berkshire Visa ICLN AMZN Most of the tech companies are diversifying into cloud hosting / monthly services so I feel like those are good long term holds. My biggest concern is with ICLN. My thought is that since I’m only in my 20s, as I get closer to retirement renewable / clean energy will become more and more relevant. Is ICLN a good pick to capture this? Visa is just because I don’t think payment processing will ever not be a thing. submitted by /u/Nickyweg [link] [comments]

Really curious about the drop in ICLN these past two weeks. The first dip was understandable, "frozen windmills killed Americans!" But the dip is continuing. (And the windmills didn't kill anyone...) I'm wondering if we're going to see anti clean energy take hold of congress. I haven't really noticed any shifts in I did notice 12% of their holdings are in China. So that might prove precarious as there's still quite a bit of China uncertainty in the market. Any thoughts? Fairly new to stock, so obviously focused on holding few "safe" ETFs (like VTI, VXUS) for now, but I've been discovering more and more ETFs in various sectors full of interesting companies. Examples: ESPO (Esports with EA, Blizzard, NVDA etc) JETS (airlines) ICLN (Global clean energy) ARKX (Ark Space Exploration) and much more. 29. Are clean energy ETFs good long term holds? (22/04/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
I bought a clean energy ETF in December. I didn't sell it when they peaked in January and February. I am 7% up on them but wondering if the peak was pure speculation and this will be a painful laggard for the next 5 years. I can move the funds to VTI and chill. After all any specific holding should beat VTI if it is in anyone's portfolio. Wondering what the outlook for clean energy ETFs will be going forward for this decade. I am a long term holder. submitted by /u/FitSkirtShirt [link] [comments]

New to stonks, can someone please help me understand the purpose of “after hours” trading and how it differs from trading during standard hours? If trades can still be done after closure... what’s the point of “closing” the markets for the day? Thanks submitted by /u/CarlSagans_Anus [link] [comments]

  32. What's causing ICLN to gradually decline since the January? Do you reckon it will recover? (16/05/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
When I look at the graph of ICLN in the last 10 years, the there's been barely any growth in it until the pandemic hit and suddenly after April 2020, it started growing and kept growing until the beginning of January 2020. Perhaps this sudden growth is down to the optimism that Biden will promote renewable energy, along with the US government's cash injection to boost the economy during the pandemic. However, now that ICLN is back to its normal trend (4/2011 - 3/2020), do you reckon it will come back to north trending graph any time soon? I bought ICLN at the end of February and now it's more than 27% down. Do you reckon it will grow back any time soon? Or should I give up on it? submitted by /u/its_all_pointless [link] [comments]

  33. Question: Are ARK funds and clean energy dying? (03/03/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
So, long story short, I sold off my Roth IRA vanguard mutual funds last December or so and pretty much bought the peak in arkk, arkg, icln, and tan. Have i made a grave error? Is it best ride it out at this point and hope these funds return to their previous value? Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/Serious_Pineapple_47 [link] [comments]

So what is everyone buying on this bloody red day? Walmart, Fastly and Palantir are down noticeable big. Apple is still down for the past month. Clean energy stocks such as ICLN and PLUG(hydrogen) are also down for the past of couple of days. Alibaba and JD also took a minor hit today. Stocks in pre-market are bloody red, so with that said do you plan to buy anything if they stay red throughout the day(or go even lower)? I am considering Xpeng, Alibaba and possibly Disney. Looks like clean energy stocks such as ICLN and Plug power are getting hit the hardest. 45. Outside of immediate hype I actually think AMC and NOK (specifically NOK) are good holds does anyone agree or disagree? (09/02/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
I got 100 Nokia during the hype and lost $150 I got 50 AMC before the hype and actually still am +_80 (at one point I was at 800...) I also have 10 BB and I lost $40ish I actually think these are good holds for me in the long term. I think theaters will get a nice bump and AMC will be king of the theaters again and since I got 50 shares at like $4 I think it's reasonable for me to see a return. Nokia my avg cost is like $6 and I lost a lot. I do think they are a great long term hold with all the 5G stuff they are doing as well as licensing plays. BB I only have 10 shares but I think it'll rise eventually. I got caught up with the hype but I'm actually happy where I landed in terms of holding! I'd love to hear thoughts since I started investing two years ago. I have 12 Zynga shares and made $80. 3 Nintendo and made $70-80 and 2 disney and made $30-40. I think I'm doing ok for a newcomer. I even listened to advice here since I regretted selling my TPIC clean energy stock and got five ICLN shares and funnily enough Nokia is in ICLN I saw! submitted by /u/HughieCanary [link] [comments]

  46. CBOE to Extend Global Trading Hours for VIX and SPX Options to Nearly 24 Hours, Beginning November 21, 2021 (15/06/2021 - Reddit Stock Market)
Source The planned extension of Cboe's GTH session aims to cater to growing customer demand globally for expanded access to trade Cboe's flagship SPX and VIX options, which are designed to help enable investors to hedge or gain exposure to the broad U.S. market and global equity volatility. With the ability to execute SPX and VIX options trading strategies around the clock, market participants are expected to be able to adjust their positions and manage risk more efficiently, particularly in response to global macroeconomic events as they are happening. "The launch of our extended GTH session comes at an exciting time as Cboe continues to grow as a global markets operator and enter new markets, asset classes and regions around the world," said Arianne Criqui, Senior Vice President, Head of Derivatives and Global Client Services at Cboe Global Markets. "The extended GTH session is designed to be aligned to further expand investor access to our markets and meet global customer demand for SPX and VIX options to help hedge positions and potentially capitalize on changes in volatility well before and after regular U.S. trading hours." 47. $DNN Is Taking Off (18/02/2021 - Reddit Stock Market)
Is Uranium the future of clean energy? ???????? Denison Mining Corp welcomes you to the era of clean energy. Now that Joe Biden has taken over the office of the president, we are seeing a push to decarbonize the economy, and what better way to decarbonize the economy than nuclear energy? Nuclear energy will soon be the poster child for clean energy. There are three things you need to know about nuclear energy, it produces minimal waste, its land footprint is small but most importantly (at least for us investors) it’s a zero-emission clean energy source. Why is this important for us investors you ask? Nuclear energy generates power through a process called fission. Fission is the process of splitting URANIUM atoms. For all you mouth breathers that aren’t following along... ????CLEAN ENERGY=URANIUM. ???? If you want to get rich during the Biden Administration and beyond you need to get your filthy little hands on some sweet Uranium. However, there are multiple Uranium companies out there, how do you choose the right one? Well boys and girls, I’m here to tell you about this great uranium mining company called Denison Mining Corp (DNN) Denison Mining Corp (DNN) is a uranium mining company based out of Canada. This company is a lucrative buy because it owns 90% of the Wheeler River project which is at this point in time the largest undeveloped high grade uranium project. Denison mining is perhaps in possession of the single best uranium deposit in the world. We are still in the infancy stages of this company and all it has to offer the world of clean energy. Their market cap just hitting $1 Billion today, which is just the beginning. So if you’re trying to get to the moon, hop aboard the DNN rocketship. ????????????????????WE LIKE THE STOCK, REMEMBER CLEAN ENERGY=URANIUM, URANIUM=DNN???????????????????? As always, do your own DD! It’s your money, only you can decide what stocks will take you to tendie town! I’m not a expert nor is this financial advice. EDIT: So adding this on after reading some comments against nuclear energy. The real question is not whether you personally believe nuclear energy is the future, it’s whether the governments and other entities in charge think it’s the future. It would be great if we could all do geothermal, solar or wind but those sources don’t work in every geographic location. submitted by /u/jgeng54 [link] [comments]

I own a good amount of ICLN and want to sell it off, but want to minimize my losses before doing so and moving to another ETF I like. Is there a good strategy to do this? I bought in around December of 2020 if that helps at all. I was all about ICLN a couple months ago by irresponsibly reading reddit posts alone, but doing my own research and increasing my knowledge on stocks in general is really swaying me away from an ETF like this one. submitted by /u/ClarkGriswold00 [link] [comments]
