Amazon partial unionization vote tallies 2 to 1 against.

Reddit Stocks

09/04/2021 - 15:51

https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2021/04/08/amazon-bessemer-mailbox-union/ Recent partial results from the unionization vote records general trend of 2 to 1 against, most people expecting the vote to go against unionization. What are your thoughts on impact on the company? Given that the wages at Amazon in Alabama are $15/hour (roughly 2x the legal minimum wage in the state) do you think that had a measurable impact on the results of the vote (employees voting for immediate over long term interests)? Do you think this will be repeated (and have a better chance of succeeding) in a state with higher minimum wage laws? submitted by /u/SoapHorse69 [link] [comments]

  9. My only investments are in Amazon and Alibaba (15/03/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
I know it's risky, but would you say it's a stupid bet to make? I'm incredibly optimistic about the future of both companies, so I ended up liquidating my entire portfolio at the beginning of the year and putting it into these two companies. With Amazon my main issue is the budding unionization efforts across the country. With Alibaba, its the increasing tensions between China and the United States, Jack Ma is a side issue as well. Portfolio is mid 5 figures, I'm 23 and in grad school with family support so if this blows up in my face it wont have a significant effect on me. submitted by /u/PotentialPuzzled [link] [comments]

  36. Do you vote in annual shareholder meetings on ESG proposals or CEO pay as part of your investment activities? (05/03/2021 - Reddit Stock Market)
I'm a relatively new investor and I have learned recently about my right to vote as a shareholder. Do other investors here vote in shareholder meetings, or do you typically ignore them because they are dominated by larger institutional investors? There appears to be a massive potential for a collective action problem here. I'm curious because it seems like we retail investors have more power over the market than we originally thought. I wonder if Reddit could significantly influence not just stock price, but the direction a company takes in the future, especially with respect to ESG proposals. submitted by /u/allowtheallow [link] [comments]

Feels like a real rookie thing to ask, even though I've been investing for a few years: What's the difference between proxy cards, and how do you vote with them? I've never voted during annual meetings, which yes, I know, shame on me, but I'm starting to. For instance: Currently own XOM, and there's that whole thing with Engine 1. I received an email from my broker like I do for every stock I hold with a link for the Blue card. Engine 1 encourages voting the White card, but I A) Don't know the difference between the two and B) how to vote White card if I wanted to. Since I can't see what's on it, I'm not even sure which way I want to vote. Can anybody help a noob out? submitted by /u/flankerrugger [link] [comments]

  39. Do retail investors have the potential to actively change a company through voting? (16/06/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
I like to trade and invest in stocks in my free time and like most people whenever a new meme stock comes around, I like to watch from the sidelines and sometimes join in with a few shares. After seeing the aftermath/now of the huge impact millions of retail investors had on stocks like GME, AMC, etc. I started to wonder... What if all of these retail investors were to vote together? Could they have a significant effect on a company? Personally, I will just ignore any email I get about voting at a shareholder meeting since I know my vote will be meaningless but if retail investors, or reddit for example, was to come together and vote wouldn't there be a possibility that they could actually change a company? I have very little knowledge on shareholder voting so maybe my random thought was meaningless but if there was a way for retail investors votes to actually make a change it would be interesting to think about the possibilities. It would probably have to be a change that is either meme enough so people can vote together or something like right to repair where all the consumers (retail investors) will be happy. tldr: title + what if wsb all voted together on amc or gme? submitted by /u/JimboCrackers [link] [comments]

  46. Capital Gains on Partial Sales? ???? (07/05/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
Noob here - I've been trading for about a year and half now. My question is in regard to capital gains taxes on partial sales of a stock. Are gains taxes only due when the OVERALL sale of a stock passes the initial investment value? I know that is the case in general, just looking for specifics. For example, if I own 10 shares of ABC for $10/share ($100 total investment), will I only owe taxes once my sell value as a whole increases past $100? If I sell 5 shares at $15/share, I won't owe taxes on that since my realized gains aren't over $100 right? Even tho the stock price itself is higher than what I bought in at? Thanks in advance ???? submitted by /u/dsmall434 [link] [comments]
