Brand new at learning the investment world and trying to dip my toes in. I’ve been reading about mutual funds and index funds but am a bit confused. I believe I’ve read that low-cost index funds are the way to go for newer, younger (age 27), more aggressively investing people. But then I read that mutual funds are useful when wanting to trade in a selection of stocks (as well as ETFs). Just looking for some clarification here in layman’s terms if possible. Would be greatly appreciated if someone can give me a bit more direction. Thanks! 40. Risks With Leveraged Funds? (21/06/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
In several places, the risks outlined with leveraged funds (TQQQ, UPRO, etc) usually include the possibility of losing all of your principle - e.g. the underlying asset drops 33%, so a 3x fund would go to 0. Unless, I’m missing something, in the history of these funds there has never been an instance where the underlying asset dropped far enough to zero out the principle - at least not in the ones I’ve checked. The warnings claim that these funds are only for the short term and are not meant to be held long term. While I’m sure there have been some leveraged funds that have tanked, I’m failing to see the risks with a fund which tracks a fairly safe asset like the NASDAQ or S&P 500. I also understand that these funds have higher expenses, but is there something else I’m missing? I’m up quite a bit so far and I see no reason to sell at this point. submitted by /u/jamesr14 [link] [comments]

  42. Energy storage/renewables/EV, etc. investment funds for EU citizens (UCITS compliant/ closed end funds/mutual funds) (07/03/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
So, I am started to look for some thematic funds to invest for EU citizens, but there is a limitation that EU investors can only buy UCITS-compliant ETF's as an example. Anyway, there is possibility to buy such things as closed end funds like BST or BSTZ or mutual funds as well. I would like to get some ideas for EU-available funds (doesn't matter, passive/active ETFs, closed end funds, mutual funds, w/e is compliant with EU laws) which would focus on: -Energy storage and battery technologies -EV transformation -Renewable energy transformation *-other sexy growth-oriented funds like semiconductors, computing, cloud, fintech and AI. Anything you think is worth sharing. I do understand that management fee's can be higher, but please share ideas you have, I think I could sort myself afterwards if I (or someone who is interested in similar investing opportunities) find compelling investments. submitted by /u/MaxPax2 [link] [comments]
