  11. Online payments firm Stripe takes first step toward listing (09/07/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
Digital payments processor Stripe Inc, the most valuable U.S. technology startup, has taken its first major step toward a stock market debut by hiring a law firm to help with preparations, according to people familiar with the matter. The 11-year-old company, which was valued by investors at $95 billion in a fundraising round in March, has sat out this year's red-hot market for initial public offerings (IPOs), using private tender offers to allow some of its existing investors and employees to cash out their holdings. Remaining private has enabled Stripe to keep such financial details as revenue and profitability under wraps. Yet this has also deprived it of using its shares as a publicly traded currency to help finance acquisitions and to incentivize employees. Stripe has tapped Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP as a legal adviser on its early-stage listing preparations, the sources said. There has been no decision on the timing of the stock market debut, and the next step would be the hiring of investment banks later this year, the sources added. The listing would be unlikely to happen this year, two of the sources said. Stripe is considering going public through a direct listing, rather than a traditional IPO, because it does not need to raise money, said two of the sources, cautioning that those plans could change. Founded in 2010 by Irish brothers Patrick and John Collison, Stripe processes hundreds of billions of dollars in transactions every year for millions of businesses worldwide. Its list of clients includes Alphabet Inc's Google, Uber Technologies Inc, Amazon.com Inc and Zoom Video Communications Inc. Early investors Elon Musk, Peter Thiel and Google’s venture capital arm. Stripe's breakneck growth could result in it challenging Chinese technology giants Ant Group and ByteDance, whose valuations are close to $200 billion, for the title of world's most valuable startup by the time it goes public. 14. Goldman Sachs Files An 'Innovate DeFi And Blockchain' ETF (28/07/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
Wall Street giant Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE: GS) plans to launch a new investment product that will give investors exposure to the DeFi and blockchain industry. What Happened: According to a recent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the Goldman Sachs Innovate DeFi and Blockchain Equity ETF will track the performance of the Solactive Decentralized Finance and Blockchain Index. “The Index is designed to deliver exposure to companies that are aligned with two key themes, the implementation of Blockchain Technology and the Digitalization of Finance,” reads the filing. However, based on the composition of Solactive’s existing blockchain indices, it is unclear exactly how much actual exposure to the DeFi industry Goldman’s proposed ETF will deliver. Solative’s index methodology requires a publicly-traded company with a market cap of at least $500 million to be listed on a regulated stock exchange and have an average trading volume exceeded $500 million over the past six months. 22. Better off investing in actual blockchain protocols than blockchain stocks? What's actually riskier? (16/02/2021 - Reddit Stock Market)
I know this is sub is not crypto/blockchain oriented, but I wanted to start a discussion about this since the current rise in stocks like RIOT, MARA, and BTBT. These stocks follow the exact trajectory of bitcoin - when bitcoin goes up, they go up, when it goes down, they go down. There's no company valuation or fundamentals involved in the marketcap of these stocks, it's entirely emotion/gut based trading that follows the BTC market. So my question for the more old school traders is, why would you invest in these stocks and not actual crypto currency at this point? I could be wrong, but it seems clear that blockchain stocks give you almost all of the financial risks of bitcoin with less of the reward. One of the biggest arguments for blockchain is that if you have a large amount invested in fiat/government issued money system - crypto is a hedge on that system. For many people in my generation, having even just a few toes in crypto is a safe haven, if govt issued fiat were to tank. So, whether you believe fiat is dying (or on its way to being hyperinflated) or not, why would you invest in this blockchain alternative with fiat? That means, if fiat actually does hyperinflate, the stock market will be more at risk than these actual blockchain protocols. Please, if this is a dumb idea forgive me. I'm fairly new to investing, and just want to know what the rationale would be to invest in a BTC ETF and not in actual btc? It seems like the risk is actually greater than investing in BTC. Let me know what you think. submitted by /u/wetbootypictures [link] [comments]

  32. Google's cloud taps AMD for new service as chip wars heat up (17/06/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
AMD is up 3% this morning because of this deal. Does this allow the stock to retrace all time highs or are chip shortages and a high multiple still a concern? I own $90 LEAPS for next year and while they are currently in the red, I'm still bullish on the company. June 17 (Reuters) - Advanced Micro Devices Inc (AMD.O) and Alphabet Inc's (GOOGL.O) Google Cloud on Thursday said Google will offer cloud computing services based on AMD's newest data center chip, a move likely to intensify AMD's push to grab market share from rival Intel Corp (INTC.O). Cloud computing providers such as Google, Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O) and Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) are some of the biggest buyers of data center chips. They build services on top of the chips to rent the computing power out to millions of customers. Google said on Thursday it will start offering services based on AMD's "Milan" server chip, which AMD released in March. Google said customers such as Snap Inc (SNAP.N) and Twitter Inc (TWTR.N) are testing the new AMD-based services. AMD has been gaining market share against Intel, which was long the dominant player in data center chips but whose offerings have inferior performance on some measures because of years of stumbles in Intel's manufacturing operations. Intel in April announced its "Ice Lake" chip competitor to AMD's "Milan" chip and said all major cloud providers would support it, but Intel has not said when Google will start offering services based on its latest chip. https://www.reuters.com/technology/googles-cloud-taps-amd-new-service-chip-wars-heat-up-2021-06-17/ submitted by /u/BigRed323 [link] [comments]

So, I searched for a ticket with my name and found DAN (Dana). And I thought it would be a good company to use for this exercise. What I was thinking is, all together, we could explain and discuss how to do a step by step DD. One of the reasons I chose this stock is that while the chart looks very good to a layperson, a quick Google search finds an article that suggests it is overvalued and potentially primed for a decline. So clearly a rounded approach to DD is necessary to make a well-informed decision on investments. I also thought it best to do this with a little known stock so that we're not taking anything for granted, as may be the case with a well known company. At best, we could help loads of people learn to do good DD. At worst, we could find a company worth investing in. Teach a man to fish, and all that... 47. Korea Web Giant Naver Mulls U.S. Bond, IPO to Take on Google (21/04/2021 - Reddit Stock Market)
One of the few countries in the world where Google doesn’t dominate web searches is South Korea, where Naver Corp. leads the market and is also a big player in e-commerce and fintech. But the Korean company, which now gets more than 95% of revenue domestically, wants to boost its international presence. To help with that, Naver is considering more dollar bond sales after its debut deal last month, and it’s also eyeing a possible future U.S. initial public offering for a unit, chief financial officer Park Sang-jin said in an interview. “To grow, it’s inevitable that we go global,” according to Park, who’s been with the firm since it was founded in 1999. “We should find business opportunities and meet capable partners to supplement our assets.” Naver rival Coupang Inc.’s U.S. IPO last month was the biggest by a Korean firm in more than a decade. It underscored the drive by companies to expand globally, as well as investors’ willingness to provide funds for that. Naver has made investments overseas recently including taking stakes in Spain’s virtual marketplace Wallapop and Canada’s Wattpad. Park said the firm is looking for more opportunities in Japan, where its Line messaging service is popular, as well as Europe, Southeast Asia and Taiwan. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-04-20/korea-web-giant-naver-mulls-dollar-bonds-ipo-to-take-on-google submitted by /u/Johnblr [link] [comments]
