Idea for big gains - CEO focus

Reddit Stocks

22/07/2021 - 01:01

So was looking at some number crunching and looks like $AMZN is up 200,000% since its IPO and $TSLA is up 17,000% since its IPO. So these are some pretty impressive numbers and one take away we can make from this is that both Musk and Bezos are two of the newest centibillionaires and people we talk about as world's richest man. So was wondering what else you can make of this I'd say these two companies CEOs were both very invested in the company and had a strong work ethic and history of success. So to find the next $AMZN or $TSLA, its possible to perhaps look at the CEOs. Find the ones that fit the mold so to speak. Come up with your own criteria for how well they fit the Musk-Bezos-Hunger-Scale. Because the thing about both companies again is that they had this ability to transition from their original business model into something more revolutionary. $AMZN in the original business plan was set up as an online book store and then transitioned into an online marketplace. $TSLA was set up as an EV and energy company but most of their speculative stock value is arguably based on their self driving software and design rather than the quality of their cars otherwise. So just thought I'd point these out and wondering what you guys have to say about who is on your scale with obvious potential. Someone young, maybe looking at the Forbes 30 under 30 or 40 under 40 would be somewhat of a place to start. We gotta find these young entrepreneurial world conquerors and hop on the wagon before it heads to the moon. Thanks for reading. submitted by /u/PaleontologistWest [link] [comments]

  2. Tax Advice — capital gains (13/03/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
I’ve been trying to make some sense of how to bring down capital gains tax for a stock sale. I’m rebalancing my portfolio, and I have a stock that I’ve held for years and years that’s just too much of my portfolio. However, if I understand correctly, selling it to buy other stocks will trigger capital gains tax. That sucks, but such is life. From what I understand, if I also sell stocks at a loss, the losses will subtract my capital gains tax obligation. So here’s my theory on strategy, but I’m wondering if this would really work: Let’s say I owe $2,000 in capital gains tax for 2021 taxes. I have no losses to sell. I could wait until next tax season and owe $2,000 ... OR... and here’s my idea: If I have to pay uncle sam $2,000 anyway, why don’t I try putting $2,000 in to some very high risk stocks. Best that could happen is they make big gains, and I make more money. Worst that could happen is they tank and then I can sell them for a $2,000 loss, which cancels my capital gains tax obligation. Will this strategy work? Is it a good idea? Somebody here has probably got some good suggestions. Thanks for the ideas. submitted by /u/Manofballs [link] [comments]

  3. Looking to focus my learning (23/03/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
New to stock trading and trying to devour as much information and learn a lot just so I can get a general idea of where I should focus my attention in what I should be learning. Right now, I’m going in dozens of directions from looking into MIT’s free YouTube courses on finance, portfolio management, controlled risk, etc (though I’m thinking I will need to take some prerequisite in math). The rest of my research is just googling any time I don’t understand something (which is everything), like why market cap is important, what float % is and what it’s used for when doing DD, what to look for in a company to see if it is good to buy stock in, should I learn swing trading 100% or devout some time to learn day trading, how options work and the different strategies, what types of tools should I be using and what are the best tools, how bonds trading works, etc, etc, etc. So I guess my question is, what is best to focus on when learning as a brand new trader or should I just kind of keep going down this route until I get a better, general idea and may figure what direction I want to go as I go. 4. Are REITs a good way to get into RE or….? (23/07/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
Or am I better off just saving cash for a year or two to buy a piece of RE instead? While I love stocks, I really like the idea of investing in something that is physical and I can see but also hate the idea of not having investing cash into the market where I may lose out on gains. I would invest somewhere out of state though since I live in California. It’s is too expensive and I think my money would go father elsewhere. 5. Should I sell stocks and rebuy immediately if I am about to be in a higher long term capital gains tax bracket? (07/04/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
The idea would be to sell everything or as much as you can keeping in mind capital gains are considered income, so selling too much may put you into the higher bracket. This would be to take advantage of 0% capital gains tax before moving up into the 15% bracket. Should I be selling what I can each year and rebuying immediately to prevent future taxes from selling massive gains when I am in a higher bracket? Or am I missing something? submitted by /u/cballer1010 [link] [comments]

Correct me if I'm wrong but: The idea behind DCAing is that you avoid some volatility in the market. The idea behind sitting on money is that statistically most people who do this end up losing out on gains and they'd be better off with all their money in equity. This would mean youre better off holding almost/no cash. Aren't these are pretty contradictory philosophies? submitted by /u/AbbeyMackay [link] [comments]

  12. What would happen if everyone invested and never worked again? (30/03/2021 - Reddit Stock Market)
Okay, so I get the idea that people can invest and just live off their investments. People love the idea that they can stay at home and make money doing nothing. And I can see that this idea of not doing anything is becoming more popular. But, once this idea gets too popular and everyone invests and just lives off the money they have in the Stock market, how is this in any way beneficial to the economy? If everyone invested and nobody worked, who would produce stuff? Who would work to make money for those companies listed on exchanges? I am having a bit of hardship grasping the idea that somebody can make money while doing nothing productive, it just doesn't seem like a sustainable solution and just another excuse to be lazy. submitted by /u/MrOptical [link] [comments]

  17. Spreadbetting over normal trading? (31/05/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
For those that don't know what spreadbetting is, here's a simple run-down. You can choose a price per point. For example, suppose I like ICLN at $23. I can buy, with $1 per point. This means I'm holding 100 shares of ICLN. As for why I'm asking this question, gains aren't taxed. Losses aren't either, but that isn't an issue, as in Ireland, you can't really reclaim losses. On gains, anything over €1.3k is taxed 33%. If I bought and held, I pay about 3% interest per year. My idea is simply to buy SPY. I have the ability to leverage myself somewhat as well, and in the event of a crash, I can very easily leverage myself. My question is, is it worth it? I have access to every stock on US exchanges, plus access to most of them coins/coin Indexes, although admittedly, I'm not much of a fan. I'd like to hear some opinions on this. Avoiding 33% tax on gains seems far more enticing. submitted by /u/Traditional_Fee_8828 [link] [comments]

  19. Question regarding taxes (16/02/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
So I only started investing in 2021 and I have made gains on a couple of trades. Obviously I intend to trade a bit more throughout it the year. When it comes time to report to Uncle Sam, do I actually have to pay the taxes on the gains if I DO NOT WITHDRAW the funds? If I do have to pay the gains, is it best to keep track of my gains and keep X% aside to cover my ass? If I had any losses, do those count against the gains? Someone brought it to my attention that just because I invest into s&p500 etfs doesn’t mean it’s the greatest idea as people say because I have to pay taxes on the dividends and the capital gains tax in case I ever wanted to liquidize my investments for a different investment or whatever else I wanted to purchase. My question is, why is it justifiable to invest into the S&P500 and other etfs that yield an average 15% year to year return when in the end I’m going to be taxed 20% on the gains basically losing 5% more than my original investment. Also bonus question, what are the must know tax information on stocks for year to year taxes if I hold and NOT sell? Thank you ahead of time, I’m 19 and really trying to understand the tax game and want to be as educated as possible on best methods of investments with taxes. submitted by /u/Theoutlaw700 [link] [comments]

So I have around $40k just sitting in my checking account and on my current salary I should be able to save $1.5k every month. However, I am working to apply to a masters program next fall(Aug 2022) in Europe. I know I will need the money then. Rather than just keep all the money in my bank account, is it a good idea to just put it all in S&P 500, which from my research should have low enough risk of losing the money. I know that I have $12k in a Roth IRA that's in a 2050 Retirement Fund, but other than that I have no experience in investing in stocks. Is it possible to be taxed for more than you make? 49. AMC Stock Holders - Pitch for AMC Subscription Service - Cable and Streaming - Your Thoughts. (06/06/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
As we the investors and are now owning 80% of the shares, I wanted to toss an idea out to the group. I think that the Big Ten Network or HBO, serves as a great example of how AMC could create a market that requires cables services that gives people a theater experience at home and could really bring a great experience to streaming services. So here is my idea. I am a game dev, so I would like people closer to this industry to take hold of the idea, and drill into how good or bad the idea is and take control of it and see if a pitch could be taken up for review. We could form a team to present and bring it up in a share holders meeting. (Be actual adults who hold shares, be apart of the process to fix the company) So here is the service. What do you watch on the service? I think we follow the same setup standard TV channels follow with a pattern style of movies at exactly known hours. So people are never surprised about what movies will be on and what time. M-F you know exactly what genre of movies come on around what time. TBD what those are by research. During the morning it could be cartoons and then as the mid-day pushes in more old time classics and then I feel every night at 9pm having the prime-time movie. Before each prime-time movie you have exactly what you have at a movie theater. Previews of what is coming out at the movies and on our channel on release dates. I also did like at Almo draft house they had themes of previews or movie skits before the movie based on the movie that was going to be watched. So for example before It they showed a bunch of really scary clown, old movie clips and cartoons and it was really cool to have this before the show. Could do this before Prime-time, to really give it the attention it deserves. Weekend Prime-time moves get more focus and but release movies, the ones that get released the same day as movies in the theaters, get a big half hour of just really pump'd up time before the movie just like in the theaters. With previews and these little skits. This is a paid service with cable providers and online streaming services. There is an App, their could be a few channels, AMC Western, AMC Prime and AMC Sci-Fi etc . The idea is to make it a premier channel like HBO. Anyway, just an idea, wanted to float it and I am sure someone else has thought about it. But wanted to spin it and see if someone inside that industry could take a hold of the idea and see why this legally or functionally would or wouldnt work. If it could not how could we actually help the company bring more money in? Lets help find solutions, not just sit on the stocks. Thanks in advance for any thoughts. Just wanted to give some help if I was able. submitted by /u/osupeanuts [link] [comments]

  50. Capital gains tax (28/04/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
So I just read in German media that Biden plans to raise the capital gains tax from 20 % to 38 % to finance education and child care. Now I am wondering if this will cause a huge sell-off as investors will want to realise their gains with the 20 % instead of the 38 % tax. Am I making the right conclusion here or does your tax system work in ways I do not know that will prevent the sell-off (e.g. retroactive tax for all gains made beginning 2021)? submitted by /u/gkts [link] [comments]
