  2. Wondering if this niche(?) order type/scenario exists: (27/05/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
I would like to submit an order that will allow the stock to continue falling, but once it shows xzy%/$ increase, the broker should buy. Does this exist? I think it sounds a bit like a Trailing Stop Buy order, but almost everything I read about those is for a sell scenario so I'm not sure. I'm pretty new to this so just wanted to test my assumptions first. Here's the scenario I want: - StockA is at $100 and I place a buy order with a $10 trail - StockA falls to $90, $80, $70, $60; order should not execute - StockA rises to $69; order should not execute - StockA rises to $70; order should execute Am I right in thinking that a Trailing Stop Buy order with a $10 trail should behave like this? If no, is there another order that would? Cheers! submitted by /u/_bowl_ [link] [comments]

  6. GME Limit or Market Order (26/06/2021 - Reddit Stock Market)
I use Ameritrade, and I’ve never had any complaints, so I won’t start now. I’m just going to state the situation and ask a simple question. I want to sell 3 GME @ $1,000,000. The Market Makers won’t accept such an order. Ameritrade allows “conditionals” which will create the order at the appropriate time that the market makers would accept an order, but only as a “market” order and not as a “limit” order. Who uses market orders and why? Who uses limit orders and why? I know the difference between the two. I’m just trying to gather others’ opinion of what they would do in that situation. I can’t understand why I am not allowed to enter it other than, “because I said so”. But that aside, I don’t want to babysit stocks, I typically either buy and hold, or set my sell order right after I buy it (GTC). Thoughts? Thanks! submitted by /u/WriteItDownYouForget [link] [comments]

From what I understand, the variables stated in a limit order will be sold at that price, whereas in a stop order, there is a trigger price that will sell at a market price? Isn't a limit order technically a market price at the right timing? 9. A hypothetical situation with rare (poor liquidity) asset question (09/04/2021 - Reddit Stock Market)
Yesterday, when screening available asset available on by brokerage account, I've noticed that some of them have almost no bids/asks at all, and maybe a few transactions during a week. I know that for stocks with good liquidity the market price is usually very close to the one you see in the live chart, but I don't know what happens in some edge cases, for example: Imagine an asset XYZ with the last market price $150 and the following sell (ask) orders: market order market order limit order at $100 limit order at $90 and no buy (bid) orders at the moment. An hour later someone makes a buy (bid) market order Would the order be executed against (3) or (1) with the price of (3)? Also, what if on both sides there was only one market order, how would then be the price calculated? submitted by /u/thecrissbehind [link] [comments]

  11. Payment for order flow vs. market making (21/03/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
Am I understanding this correctly? Citadel pays for order flow and is a market maker as well. When Citadel pays Robinhood for order flow and you want to buy 100 shares of AAPL at 120$, Robinhood will route your order to Citadel who will when buy 100 shares of AAPL for fractions below 120$. It will then sell you your order for 120$ and pocket the difference. It also uses the data from order flow to strategize against retail investors in its own investments. That's how Citadel makes money from payment for order flow. However, as a designated market maker, it also maintains inventory of AAPL stock and profits off the spread between the bid and the ask size. Profiting from order flow and market making are two different things. submitted by /u/vacuum_potential [link] [comments]

  22. Will a buy limit order fill below specified amount? (22/02/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
I’m sorry to bother everyone I just cannot get a straight answer out of google!! If I am trying to buy a stock that is currently sitting at 10.00 but am expecting it to open higher due to increased activity. Can I place an order for buy limit order for 15.00 and potentially have it fill lower? Say it runs up to 12.50.... filling all the market orders. Will my order fill at 15.00 or 12.51? Does it always try and fill at the lowest market price available up to my buy limit? Thank you so much for your help !! 24. Buy/sell orders for dummies (i.e. for me) (10/05/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
Trading newbie here. I've been researching the various buy/sell orders that a trader can utilize. Market and limit orders are obviously very easy to understand. I also understand stop limit orders for the most part...it's the stop loss orders that I'm having trouble grasping... Isn't a stop loss order essentially the same as a limit order? If I set a stop loss order to sell for $10, then it will become a market order and sell for the next available price once it hits $10. If I set a limit order for $10 then it will only sell at $10. I understand that market orders can be slightly different than a limit order (price-wise depending on when the market order executes), but apart from that wouldn't the two basically be the same? Just looking for some clarification on non-market/limit orders. Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/dsmall434 [link] [comments]

  25. How are stop limit orders used and when would you use them? (14/03/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
My understanding of a stop limit order is that you set a stop price which triggers a limit order to happen. What’s the difference between that and a normal limit order? Say I’m doing a buy limit order of stock XYZ. I set the stop price as $10 dollars and the limit price at 10.50. What’s the difference between that and a limit order at $10.50? What does the stop price do? submitted by /u/doped_turtle [link] [comments]

  26. What if they ban payment for order flow? (07/06/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
The SEC and the Congressional critters get together and ban payment for order flow? It would really reduce the number of retail traders and prolly crash the market. I hope to not hear of any such plans. If I do, I will prolly assume a 100% position cash and wait for the crash. Then, buy up lotsa stock at really discounted prices. That is, if, they extend the payment for order flow method in order for pending trades to be settled. submitted by /u/todamoonralph [link] [comments]

  27. Is there a way to make a stop loss trade order based on the highest price a stock reaches that day? (20/02/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
Im relatively new to trading and I wanted to place percentage based stop loss order (to sell) but when I tried to, it did it based on the price that the stock was when I put in the order and not the highest price the stock reached during that day. So my question is if its possible to put in (on TDA) a stop loss order which will go by the highest price the stock reaches that day (or before the order expires) and not based on the price at the time I place the order? submitted by /u/aokaf [link] [comments]

  46. Don't be confused about AH trading like I was... (24/03/2021 - Reddit Stocks)
On TD Ameritrade, if you look at their advertisements for after-hours trading, it makes it look like you only have a limited selection of securities that can be traded after hours: https://imgur.com/nfm0XTa However, the truth is, you can trade almost any non-restricted security after hours on TDA...you just need to know the secret handshake ;) Back in January, I wanted to trade a certain stock AH, so I made an order for that stock during AH. Since I just wanted the current price, I made it a market order. Except...the order did not execute...not until 9:30 am EST the next day during regular market hours. The trick is you *have* to make your AH order a limit order; if you like the current price of the stock, then just set the limit close to the current price. Next, go to the drop-down below where you select the order type as limit, and change the Time-in-force from the default of 'Day'. Clicking the drop-down here will give several options. The second one down is 'Day+extended hours'. There is also an option for Extended-hours a.m., in case you want your order executed pre-market: https://imgur.com/VKz67Br Complete the order, and presto! Your trading AH :) submitted by /u/Tiiinygecko [link] [comments]
